“I was thrilled to be invited to be part of the Finding Turner exhibition. I was shown around the island, and visited Herm and Sark as well, and carried with me Turner’s love of the sea, and of atmosphere, and the exquisite drawings he made of Guernsey. My images were a direct response to what I saw, and were influenced by the knowledge that Turner had stood there before me and I was seeing much of what he had seen. For the first time, I cut drawings done in situ: reversing the images by sticking the drawings down in reverse on the block. It was a successful way of working, I think, and a result of looking at Turner’s drawings.”
