Art for Guernsey is delighted to announce that an exciting new exhibition – Renoir in Guernsey, 1883 – will open at the end of September this year. The only Renoir exhibition in the world in 2023, it will celebrate the 140th anniversary of Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s stay in Guernsey and the inspiration that he found on the island, and will be staged in partnership with Guernsey Museums and the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny, including a host of major international loans. The centrepiece of the event will be a fine art exhibition at Guernsey Museum at Candie, with other exhibitions and activities planned at the Priaulx Library, the Renoir Walk and the Art for Guernsey Gallery on Mansell Street, in the heart of the Old Quarter.

  • Tickets are required for entry to the fine art exhibition Renoir in Guernsey, 1883 at Guernsey Museum at Candie.
  • Tickets are for a defined one-hour time slot, specific to a time and date of your choosing, to ensure we can manage the number of people viewing the exhibition at any time. When purchasing your ticket, please ensure you are able to attend on the date and time you have chosen, as tickets are not changeable on the day and late arrival will likely result in a shorter visit.
  • There will be a pre- and post-exhibition area to enjoy information and visuals about the exhibition and Renoir’s time in Guernsey, with a Renoir-themed menu of food and drinks served in the cafe.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR DISCOVERY PASS HOLDERS
If you are an existing member of Guernsey Museums & Galleries and hold a valid Discovery Pass, you can use it to book a free ticket, with one ticket available per pass. Simply enter the coupon code DISCOVERY when booking your ticket, and when you arrive at the venue please present your email confirmation together with your Discovery Pass.

Tickets: You can book up to 9 tickets – see below for information regarding group visits. Your ticket will be emailed to you and will need to be presented when you arrive at the exhibition. Tickets are not changeable on the day and late arrival will likely result in a shorter visit. We recommend you book your ticket to guarantee exhibition entry and receive key information and updates before your visit.

Duration of visit: Your one-hour time slot will allow sufficient time to see the exhibition, please arrive in good time for your visit, we recommend 30 minutes and at least 10 minutes prior to your time slot, as we will respectfully ask that you leave at the end of your booked time to ensure the next visitors can enjoy their visit. There is a café serving a Renoir-themed menu of food and drinks for your enjoyment pre- and post-exhibition.

Exhibition catalogue : When booking your ticket, do consider reserving your copy of the Renoir exhibition catalogue, which can be collected on arrival. This beautiful, informative book, an essay prepared by Cyrille Sciama, Director of the Musée des Impressionismes, Giverny, is unique to the exhibition and limited in number. It covers Renoir’s works in Guernsey, his inspirations and experience in the island, and the evident impact his time in Guernsey had on a number of subsequent artworks made during his later career.

Tuesday: 11am – 5pm
Wednesday: 11am – 7pm
Thursday: 10am – 7pm
Friday: 10am – 5pm
Saturday: 10am – 5pm
Sunday: 10am – 5pm

Using your Discovery Pass

Discovery Pass holders are entitled to free entry for the holder and all accompanying children (under 18 years). Please note however that tickets must be reserved for each person attending. Please enter DISCOVERY in the coupon code space provided on the booking form to reserve your free ticket, and to book any accompanying children’s tickets. Then book any subsequent tickets for additional members of your party in the usual way.

A Discovery Pass costs only £22 and is issued for 12 months from the date of purchase to a named individual over 18 years. It allows unlimited visits (during seasonal opening hours) to Castle Cornet, Guernsey Museum, Fort Grey and the German Naval Signals Headquarters. It also offers free entry for all accompanying children (under 18 years), 10% discount in the museum gift shops and Guernsey Information Centre (card must be shown when paying) and free entry to Jersey Museum & Alderney Museum (named Pass holder only).

Age requirement

The exhibition is suitable for all ages. There will be free entry for children under 7 years of age, although they must have a ticket. Prams will not be allowed in the galleries. Baby change facilities are provided.

Accessibility

The building is wheelchair accessible. Visitors with special needs will find access guides and a route plan from the Information Centre to the Museum on the AccessAble website - Guernsey Museum & Art Gallery | AccessAble. Holders of disabled permits may park in certain areas of the grounds - to arrange this call +44(0)1481 226518. Assistance dogs: Assistance dogs are welcome at Guernsey Museum but we do not accept other pets. We ask that assistance dogs wear the appropriate tabards or harness, so our staff know that they are working animals. If you are in any doubt about bringing your assistance dog, please contact us for more information on +44(0)1481 226518 or museums@gov.gg. Dogs on leads are welcome in the gardens surrounding the Museum.

Booking a ticket for your carer: Carers are welcomed with free admission when accompanying any visitor with a valid ticket. We ask that you contact museums@gov.gg to advise of any carers attending as we will need to accommodate these in the maximum capacity allowed for each one hour booking slot.

Group visits

We welcome groups who wish to view the exhibition together.

School groups

We have set aside two-hour slots, between 9am – 11am, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the exhibition for school visits.
