Interview
Jock and Nicola at CSC

We are delighted to welcome CSC as a new partner. CSC is engaging with our art-lending programme, which offers businesses the opportunity to enhance their work environments with carefully selected original artworks, changed on a quarterly basis. Nicola Giraud, Country Head, told us why CSC is supporting Art for Guernsey.

Why did CSC decide to support Art for Guernsey?
CSC has a long-standing tradition of engaging with and supporting the communities in which they operate. Art for Guernsey is known for its educational programmes that benefit local schools and students. These programmes provide young people with opportunities to engage with art, develop creative skills and gain new perspectives. CSC values education and lifelong learning, and their support for Art for Guernsey aligns with their goal of promoting educational initiatives that inspire and empower the youth and highlights the transformative power of art to bring people together and foster a sense of community.

What was it about the art-lending programme in particular that appealed to you? Was the fact that the artwork selection will change periodically an important factor?
The rotation of artworks is an important feature, it will ensure that the experience remains fresh and continually engaging for all our team, clients and business partners. This approach prevents the artwork from becoming static or overlooked over time and will encourage continuous learning by being regularly exposed to new styles, themes and artists.

What do you think about the artworks we chose for you, and have you had any feedback from your colleagues? The diversity of the artworks is an aspect that has been particularly well received. The selection includes pieces from various artists, each bringing their unique perspective and style. This variety ensures that there is something for everyone to appreciate, catering to a wide range of tastes and preferences.

Art for Guernsey has four “pillars”: exhibitions, education, community and cultural diplomacy. Which one of these most resonates with you, and why?
On a personal level, community resonates with me because it emphasises social relationships and shared experiences. It’s about forming meaningful connections with neighbours, colleagues and island residents, all of which contribute to personal wellbeing and a sense of purpose.

What does art mean to you personally?
Art enriches our lives by challenging us to see the world through different lenses. It encourages creativity and innovation, pushing boundaries and redefining what is possible. In our fast-paced world, art provides moments of pause and reflection, inviting us to connect with our inner selves and the world around
us in meaningful ways.
