Art for Guernsey’s new gallery in the heart of the Old Quarter will soon be filled with artworks by some of the UK’s top contemporary and street artists, who will be taking over every inch of the gallery walls prior to work beginning on the redevelopment of the building. The gallery is intended to be a catalyst to help take the Old Quarter on a new journey, and this unique exhibition is being created to raise funds for the fit-out of the new gallery.
Daniel Hosego, Teddy Baden, Leo Boyd, Vesna Parchet and Charlie Mcfarley will be in residence from 14-20 January, collaborating with a select group of talented local students. A further 17 UK-based street artists will send artworks which will feature in the exhibition – many of them represented by the Atom gallery in London – which is expected to make an impact internationally. You can follow the artists at work online and through the gallery windows, and on 22 January Art for Guernsey will open their doors so you can fully appreciate how the fabulous new space has been transformed.
The Art for Guernsey team is looking forward to presenting their new home to you with an immersive ‘walk-in’ experience that will allow you to discover the venue and find out about their plans for the future.
David Ummels, founder of Art for Guernsey, said:
‘We are absolutely delighted that before the fit-out phase we will hand over the gallery to five of the most inspiring British street artists, who will create a never-before-seen experience for islanders. It creates a perfect opportunity for some of the most promising art students in the island to learn from the best and take the measure of their future home. It also sets up an ideal platform for Art for Guernsey to engage with the community, invite islanders to visit the space, communicate our plans and officially launch the fundraising campaign for the fit-out phase. This gallery will create an absolutely game-changing environment for the visual arts on the island and, with the help of all our supporters, benefactors and sponsors, and the amazing passion and drive animating the team, I am confident that we will succeed to deliver this for the common good of the island.’
